London’s Hampstead: Ponds-Pubs And Poetry

In 1816, although only eight kilometers (five miles) from central London, Hampstead was enough of a remote, rural village for poet John Keats (1795-1821) to write the following about a visit there:
“To one who has been long in city pent,
‘Tis very sweet to look into the fair
And open face of Heaven.”
